If you are an animal lover or had a childhood I thought the movie was funny, but realistic. If you are an animal lover or had a childhood experience with a family dog this movie is the one for you. I absolutely loved it. There wasn't a dry eye in the entire theater.
From youngster of 10 to adult in their 50's and 60's were teary.
If you are not a dog person you should not be seeing a movie about the connection a man has with his dog. EXtremly well balanced with humor, sadness and it was one of owen wilson best movies!
Mar 14, this movie has been portrayed on the advertisements as being a lighthearted commedy. I took my 12 year old daughter to see it and I think it was totally unsuitable.

I also don't think the sex reference scenes, and subjects of miscarriage, bad marriage etc are particularly suitable. It was a PG13 and I feel it should have been a All the kids in the cinema were crying and my daughter was still really upset long after the film had finished. In one scene, Jennifer surprises John by skinny dipping in the pool.
She is shown taking off her dress from behind. While nothing is shown, their being nude is heavily implied. There are some other instances that might offend a Christian viewer that are worth mentioning. Throughout the film, many women are shown in bikinis.
Marley pulls the towel off of the house sitter off screen. Drinking takes place several times during the movie.
In the beginning, John and his wife take turns taking drinks from a wine bottle. Grogan tells his boss about his bong-hits back in school.
Marley goes to the bathroom often and is shown chewing up different things, including a bra. The film is touching in its portrayal of the difficulties of marriage and raising a family. While most couples would have given up and filed for divorce, the Grogans stuck together through the tough times and raised their children together.
While it would have been nice if God was referenced, it was refreshing to see a marriage depicted as a serious commitment in a film. However, marriage is a holy commitment in the joining of two people for the rest of their lives.
